Abstract

This dissertation explores on the current situation of Unciano Colleges and General Hospital, Inc., a tertiary hospital in Antipolo City. Hospital work is incredibly stressful as it involves life and death situation not only for the patients themselves but also among the staff. Given this gravity of work responsibility, several studies have explored the stress brought about by hospital work. One of the critical challenges nurses and hospital staff face globally is high work demands, which results in adverse effects on their health, such as distress, burnout, mental and physical illnesses (Kokoroko and Sanda, 2019; Portoghese, 2014). Longer hours of hospital shift is associated with risks to patients and risks to colleagues (Harris et al., 2015; Hazzard et al., 2013). Unfortunately, studies tackling hospital work-related stress is very minimal in the Philippine setting (Dayrit and Jabonete, 2018). This sets the necessity to conduct the present study.

Given these pieces of information, the present study explores on the three essential variables at play among the hospital staff: workload, work-life balance, and job satisfaction. It utilized a quantitative approach to measure the three variables.

The results of the study were discussed. A development program is proposed to improve the hospital staff’s levels of workload, work-life balance, and job satisfaction.
