Abstract

Resource consumption and productive land that supplies resources have to be in balanced state.Ecological Footprint and Biocapacity are used as tools for assessment of resource sustainability. This study was conducted through primary survey in Gudiyattam Villages Resource Sustainabilityassessment of Gudiyattam villages were done to ascertain the degree self sustainabilityand  dependency on other regions.. This was compared with India’s Footprint and Biocapcity for the year 2006.Accordingly based on rate of change between per capita Indian Footprint from 2006-2017, a Footprint for 2017 for Gudiyattam villages were generated. For unsustainable villages, Reduction of Footprint was attempted. As Carbon Footprint was higher and feasible for reduction, It was attempted through substitution of conventional energy sources with Renewable. A scenario of 10% and 25% reduction in Carbon Footprint was done. This method of Generating Local level assessments from national level data bases is unique and has potential for applications in other blocks.
