Abstract—Substantial data is being transferred across the unsecured channel; with this considerable data transfer comes the need to protect this data. Thus, to achieve security during transmission, several encryption algorithms have been proposed. Chaos-based maps are widely used for image encryption due to their characteristics, like pseudo-randomness sensitivity to initial conditions. Inspired by researchers, we proposed an image security algorithm based on a chaotic tent map integrated with the Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA) for key generation and optimization, for grayscale images. A diffusion and permutation are carried out in each round to make it secure. A simple XOR function is applied to encrypt and decrypt the data. Different statistical analysis has been applied to images, and results has been discussed to justify proposed techniques effectiveness.
