MATHEMATICAL PROFICIENCY AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO AXIAL THINKING SKILLS AMONG STUDENTS IN THE FIRST INTERMEDIATE CLASS

Abstract

The objective of the current research was to identify mathematical proficiency among students. As well as, the axial thinking skills and the relationship between mathematical proficiency and axial thinking skills for students in the first intermediate class / first Rusafa Baghdad governorate. The research sample consisted of (200) students in the first intermediate class / first Rusafa, where two tests were prepared, one for mathematical proficiency and the other for axial thinking skills, they were applied to a pilot sample to verify the psychometric properties, to make the two tests are ready to be applied to the basic sample. The mathematics proficiency test items reached (24) items, and the axial thinking skills test (22) items. The researchers used the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) to analyze the results of their research. The results showed that the students in the first intermediate class / first Rusafa possess mathematical proficiency and axial thinking skills, and the presence of a positive correlation between mathematical proficiency and axial thinking skills among the students in the first intermediate class / first Rusafa, to complete the research, the researchers proposed a set of recommendations.
