Abstract

A notable era of Assamese language is the Pre-Sankardev era. The first written demonstration of Assamese literature was found in Pre-Sankardev era. Due to the effort of Pre-Sankardev writers, Assamese literature got a written from oral literature in the 14th century. Writers of this era wrote literature under royal patronage. At that time Sanskrit epics The Ramayana, The Mahabharata and various Puranas influenced Indian literature. Assamese literature is no exception in this regard. The kings of Assam also inspired various writers to write Assamese translation literature of this epic under his patronage so that they could understand the meaning of these epics. The writers of this Pre-Sanakardeva era are Hem Saraswati, Kabiratna Saraswati, Rudra Kandali, Haribar Bipra and Madhav Kandali. All of them wrote literature under the influence of The Ramayana, The Mahabharata and various Puran’s. So how Indian epics have influenced the literature of writers of this Pre-Sankardev era has been chosen as the subject of our research paper.

             So, our research paper seeks to discuss how Indian epics and various Puranas have influenced the literature of writers of this Pre-Sankardev era. Therefore, the subject of our research paper is “Influenced of Indian epics and various Puranas in the Assamese literature of Pre- Sankardev era”.
