THE IMPACT OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM ON NURSE’S KNOWLEDGE TOWARD CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION, MAIN GOVERNMENTAL HOSPITAL, 2020, JEDDAH-KSA

Abstract

Background: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an important lifesaving procedure that can keep cardiac arrest patient alive long enough for definitive treatment to be delivered. Literature indicates deficiencies in Nurses CPR knowledge and poor altitudes toward advance cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Purpose: This study aims to examine the impact of brief education program on nurse knowledge toward Basic Life Support (BLS).

Methods: This study employed quasi-experimental design with 124 nurses from various wards and unit in King Fahad general Hospital. The convenience sample was selected to attend four session of education. Then the main study variables measured at baseline and post-intervention. Descriptive correlational study was conducted in King Fahad general Hospital.

Clinical implication: This study assisted in identifying knowledge of nurses about BLS including CPR.

The Results: The overall results of this study can be considered reasonably positive given all the relevant merits and considerations. The nurses under this study were examined and tested in order to determine their knowledge of CPR and how their knowledge may be affected and impacted by educational/training interventions. The results reflected that the nurses are indeed capable of CPR, but the interventions can optimize and increase their knowledge.

Conclusions: Nurses’ body of knowledge was improved and enhanced significantly through the use of educational and training interventions.

Recommendations:  increase of BLS and CPR educational and training programmes for the nurses in KSA; to ensure proper CPR procedures training with respect to prior and post testing/timing of CPR procedures
