ABSTRACT

Tea is one of the most widely drank beverages in the world. Tea production is one of the most labour-intensive industries in the world, requiring a significant number of workers throughout the entire process. Employees are a company’s most valuable asset; without them, no work can be completed. The level of contentment or dissatisfaction with one’s job is referred to as work life quality. Quality of life at work is seen as an alternative to the command-and-control approach to people management. This motivates people by meeting their social and psychological demands as well as their economic needs. The Nilgiri district is located in Tamil Nadu, India’s southernmost state, and is one of the country’s most important tea-producing regions. Hence, thisstudy has aimed to analyse the quality of work life of the tea industry employees in the Nilgiris. This study has collected both primary as well as secondary data. The nature of this study was descriptive research design. For collecting the primary data, a self-administered questionnaire has been developed and distributed among population of this study. This study selected 128 employees (Government-45, Private-83) working in Tea companies by applying random sampling method. The collected responses about demographic and working profile, and quality of work life have been entered in Excel software. The analysis has been performed by using the statistical techniques such as percentage analysis, mean score, standard deviation, ANOVA test, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis through SPSS 22.0. From the study, it is found that high level quality of work life is perceived by the employees who belong to male, earning above Rs.20,000 per month, married employees, 9-12 years of service, government companies and the employees who migrated around three companies.
