Abstract

The study entitled “Historical Importance of Kollam with Special Reference to Mangadu Excavation Site” analysed the historical antecedences of Kollam, especially Mangadu. The site in Kollam occupies a prominent place in the discovery of Megalithic or Iron Age cultures of Kerala. By analyzing the pre-historic culture of Kerala, we can identify that Kollam had a very important place since ancient times. By combining the use of documentation and archaeological evidences, the archaeologists gained a better understanding of the past, human behavior and the evolution in the pattern of the lifestyle of people through the excavations carried out in Mangadu. The archaeological excavations carried out in Mangadu proved that it was not all about artefacts, excavations or exhibits but it was all about the people thrived there.
